Arkansas can't overcome slow start, falls to Georgia

The Razorbacks lost their second consecutive SEC game despite Tramon Mark's game-high 24 points. Arkansas returns to action on Saturday against Florida.

ATHENS, Ga. — Tramon Mark scored a game-high 24 points and had seven rebounds, Trevon Brazile and Jalen Graham each scored nine points, and Arkansas lost to Georgia 76-66 on Wednesday night at Stegeman Coliseum.

The Razorbacks (9-6, 0-2 SEC) were plagued by another slow start, as they fell behind early and never held a lead. Arkansas committed three turnovers, missed their first three shots and found themselves in a 14-6 hole after the first five minutes.

Arkansas shot 40% from the field, including 3 of 21 (14.28%) from three.

It was the Hogs' first true road game of the season, and it was evident as the team looked shaky throughout the first half.

Mark threw down a dunk and knocked down a jumper on consecutive possessions, sparking Arkansas to a 9-2 run and cutting Georgia's lead to 16-15 with 9:25 to play in the first half.

However, the Bulldogs (12-3, 2-0 SEC) entered the locker room on a commanding note.

Georgia, winners of 10 straight games, answered with a 12-0 run as Justin Hill's three-pointer whipped the net to put the Bulldogs up 28-15 with 4:57 on the clock.

Hill led all Bulldogs with 19 points on 46.2% shooting the field. Noah Thomasson added 15 points, two assists and one rebound, while RJ Melendez contributed 10 points, one assist and five rebounds.

Arkansas trailed by 10 points at the half and got within three points, but it wasn't enough as the Hogs suffered their second consecutive SEC loss.

The Razorbacks continue their two-game road stretch at Florida on Saturday. Coverage from Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville, Fla., begins at 3:00 p.m. Central on ESPN.
