Arkansans killed during a house explosion in Michigan

An Arkansas family was tragically killed and two others were injured in a Michigan house explosion that could be heard miles away.

DETROIT, Michigan — Four people died and two others were injured in a Michigan house explosion that happened on December 30.

According to a report, the four victims who were killed in the explosion were Arkansans identified as Don and Hope Bragg, and their son and daughter. The two people injured were also their relatives.

Don and Hope had both worked for the University of Arkansas Monticello College of Forestry, Agriculture, and Natural Resources for several years. They were close collaborators with the research being done there and they were passionate about nature, archeology, STEM and so much more.

The explosion happened before 4:00 p.m. in Northfield Township, which is about 45 miles west of Detroit. The structure was destroyed, leaving only the basement, Northfield Township Police Lt. David Powell told reporters Saturday.

The blast, which could be heard about 9 miles away, sent debris into the air that landed on both sides of a nearby highway. Neighboring homes were not damaged, Powell said.

He also said that there were six people in the home, with four fatalities discovered at the scene, and the two surviving victims hospitalized were left in critical condition.

Authorities have not determined the cause of the explosion.

Northfield Township police did not immediately return a message from The Associated Press seeking additional information on Sunday.
