Arkansas woman charged with death by delivery after other inmate dies

The other inmate died due to "acute fentanyl and cocaine toxicity" after reportedly receiving the drugs from 41-year-old Chiquita Roberts.

CRITTENDEN COUNTY, Ark. — An inmate in an Arkansas jail is being charged with aggravated death by delivery after another inmate died in November, according to Arkansas State Police.

State police were called to the Crittenden County Detention Center after 40-year-old Shalanda Hurd was found dead in her call around 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 2.

After reviewing security footage and conducting interviews, ASP's Criminal Investigation Division was able to identify 41-year-old Chiquita Roberts as a suspect. Roberts was reportedly seen on the footage sliding something under Hurd's cell door before her death.

The state crime lab concluded that Hurd died from "acute fentanyl and cocaine toxicity."

Roberts is being charged with aggravated death by delivery in connection to Hurd's death.
