FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson has announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Saturday.
Jefferson, who has one year of eligibility left, has been a three-year starter for the Hogs and has rewritten the program's history book.
"I hope you have enjoyed watching me grow as a man and a player as much as I've enjoyed representing this state and university. You accepted me as one of your own, and for that, I'm forever grateful and in your debt," Jefferson said in a social media post. "With that being said, after much prayer and thought, I'll be entering the transfer portal for my final year of eligibility."
The quarterback has thrown 67 touchdowns and 7,923 yards while completing over 65% of his passes.
Jefferson is also respected as a runner, rushing for 1,876 yards and 21 touchdowns in a Hog uniform.
"It has been a dream to be a captain and QB1 at the University of Arkansas," Jefferson said. "Accomplishing those records and being mentioned amongst the great QBs in Razorback history was an honor, but the memories and friendships I've made with my coaches and teammates along the way are what I'll cherish the most."
Jefferson was named a preseason All-SEC selection, but is coming off of a turbulent season with the Razorbacks as he threw for a career-low in yards, a career-high in interceptions and saw a drop in his completion percentage.
"To the fans, I can't express my gratitude enough for all the support I've received from this great state," Jefferson said.
The Hogs finished the season with a 4-8 record, which landed them 7th in the SEC West. Along the way, the Razorbacks fired offensive coordinator Dan Enos, and many fans also called head coach Sam Pittman's job into question.
The Razorbacks already made headlines weeks ago by filling their offensive coordinator vacancy in a reunion with former head coach Bobby Petrino.
With Jefferson entering the transfer portal and Petrino returning to Fayetteville, there's bound to be a lot of change for the Hogs' offense heading into next season.
