Jacksonville man sentenced to decade in prison for illegal possession of a handgun

A 40-year-old Jacksonville man has now been sentenced to a decade in prison for illegal possession of a firearm.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — An Arkansas man has now been sentenced to a decade in prison for illegal possession of a firearm.

According to reports, 40-year-old Chadwick Umfleet of Jacksonville pleaded guilty to one count of "being a felon in possession of a firearm" in August 2022 after officers with the Jacksonville Police Department performed a traffic stop on Umfleet in May 2021 and found him in possession of marijuana, methamphetamine, and a stolen 9mm handgun.

During a sentencing hearing held on Wednesday, the judge heard arguments about Umplfleet's three prior felony firearm convictions and his six prior felony drug convictions including a federal conviction from 2012 for "conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine."

The judge sentenced Umfleet to the maximum penalty for his firearm offense which is 10 years imprisonment with three years of supervised release to follow.
