WALDRON, Ark. — The mayor of Waldron has posted an apology video to Facebook after he was shown on a livestream storming out of a city council meeting and yelling at councilmembers earlier this week.

On Sept. 24, the council met for a special meeting regarding an ongoing water project. Discussion over the project and the timing of the meeting quickly ensued, and tensions began to rise.

About 30 minutes into the meeting, Mayor Dave Millard threw his hands up in frustration and left, shouting at councilmembers as he walked out.

Millard called the council "SOBs" and said that he had grandbabies he could be with instead.

"Well, kiss my butt," the mayor said, storming out of the room.

Millard later explained his behavior in an email to 5NEWS, sharing how a family member had been hospitalized hours before, putting him under stress.

Less than a week later, on Sept. 27, an apology video featuring the mayor was posted to the City of Waldron Facebook page.

"On September 24, I called a special meeting of the city council. During this meeting, this mayor acted a fool. This mayor said some things that is normally not in my vocabulary to say. With 30 plus years of working for this city in public service, no one has ever heard me use this kind of language," Millard said in the video.

Millard then asked for forgiveness from the city and the city council.

"I come to you right now asking for the city council of the City of Waldron to please forgive me for the way I acted. I'm asking for the City of Waldron to forgive me for the way I acted, it was not good," Millard said in the video. "I failed. I let my flesh fail me on September 24, 2024. I please, I have asked God to forgive me and I'm asking my city and my city council, who did not deserve my actions, to please forgive me for this."

The council's next meeting is set for Oct. 3.
