LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Good news for Arkansans looking for the chance to alligator hunt this fall after Arkansas Game and Fish (AGFC) announced new hunting lands to apply for this year.
The announcement shared that hunters will now be able to choose one of 10 hunting areas that are spread throughout the southern portion of the state. This comes as two new hunting areas are now available in Alligator Management Zone 3 for the 2024 season.
Additionally, two new hunting areas were added to Zone 2 as well this year, which AGFC said marks the first year for public opportunities in that specific zone.
Here's how the hunting breaks down for each zone:
Alligator Management Zone 1
- eight permits for Millwood Lake
- four permits for Dr. Lester Sitzes III Bois D’Arc WMA
- five permits for Little River
- one permits for Sulphur River WMA
- one permit for Lake Erling
Alligator Management Zone 2
- one permit for Bragg Lake
- one permit for Lake Columbia
Alligator Management Zone 3
- 19 permits for the Lower Arkansas River Wetland Complex (Arkansas River backwaters near Arkansas Post)
- one permit for Yellow Lake (Pine Bluff Arsenal)
- six Permits for Delta Complex
An important thing to note is that each permit provides authorization of the harvest of one alligator, which must be at least 4 feet long.
Alligator hunting is allowed 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise. The approved alligator hunting season dates are Sept. 20-23 and Sept. 27-30.
Applications for this year's season can be found on AGFC's website and are available from 8 a.m. on June 15 until 11:59 p.m. on June 30.
