BAUXITE, Ark. — The Saline County Sheriff's Office arrested a 48-year-old paraprofessional at Bauxite High School on Thursday for giving a student a vape cartridge.
Authorities said the school resource officer assigned to the high school was notified of the incident and issued Mecila Barnett a citation for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
After receiving the citation, the Saline County Sheriff's Office said she resigned from her position and was escorted off school grounds.
Further investigation revealed that this wasn't the first incident involving Barnett, as she provided students with controlled substances on a previous occasion.
Barnett was arrested and charged with providing minors with tobacco products, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, endangering the welfare of a minor, tampering with physical evidence, delivery of a Schedule IV or Schedule V controlled substance and delivery of a Schedule VI controlled substance.
