GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. — Garland County sheriffs rescued an 18-year-old North Little Rock woman who was being "held against her will" at a residence near Stonegate Shores around 6:33 a.m. on Friday.
According to the Garland County Sheriff's Office, the communications center received a call for a welfare check, which led sheriffs to the residence. Sheriffs said their first attempt to make contact was unsuccessful.
After getting the victim's phone number, authorities verified that the woman was inside the home.
"She let us know that she needed help and asked us to come get her," Garland County Public Information Sgt. John Schroder said. "The tactical response team and crisis negotiation teams were activated and began responding to the scene."
The Garland County Sheriff's Office said they were able to "rescue the victim without incident and take 52-year-old Malcolm Pearce of Hot Springs into custody after he hid in an attic and "physically attacked" a deputy.
Pearce was transported to the Garland County Detention Center and was charged with false imprisonment and second-degree battery.
