Investigation underway by ASP after man fatally shot in Des Arc

Arkansas State Police are now investigating after an altercation led to a man being fatally shot on Saturday.

DES ARC, Ark. — Police are now investigating after an altercation led to a man being fatally shot and killed in Des Arc on Saturday.

According to reports, the help of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Arkansas State Police was requested by the Des Arc Police Department to investigate a shooting that happened in the 600 block of Chester Street.

Witnesses to the incident say that there was a "physical altercation" that happened between 44-year-old Jeremiah McMillen and his 65-year-old mother. They then said that during the altercation, Jeremiah's 19-year-old son intervened and shot at Jeremiah.

The son then contacted the authorities and informed them of what happened. Once they arrived, the son quickly surrendered without incident.

Police say that McMillen died as a result of the shooting.

The prosecutor will make a determination in regard to any possible charges upon the submission of the completed CID file to his office.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing and we will update with more information as soon as it becomes available.
