Arkansas State Police investigate shooting involving deputies in Washington County

Two Washington County deputies who fired their weapons at a man on Sunday morning have now been placed on administrative leave as Arkansas State Police investigate.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — Arkansas State Police are now investigating a shooting involving an officer that happened near Prairie Grove in the early morning hours of November 12.

The investigation was initiated at the request of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

According to reports, deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Office were called to a home on Jim Hall Road with reports of a 'domestic disturbance.' Once they arrived deputies found 46-year-old Ismael Fernandez allegedly pointing a gun at them as they approached the home. The deputies then proceeded to fire their gun at Fernandez.

He was taken to the Washington Regional Medical Center, but there has been no information released on his condition.

No officers were injured in the incident but the two deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave while an internal review is being done.

An investigative case file will be shown to the prosecuting attorney and they will determine whether or not the use of deadly force by the deputies was consistent with Arkansas law.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing and we will update with more information as soon as it becomes available.
