Arkansas State steamrolls Louisiana to secure spot in Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinals

Freddy Hicks led the Red Wolves with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Taryn Todd and Derrian Ford each scored 18 points in the victory.

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Freddy Hicks had 23 points in Arkansas State's 89-62 victory against Louisiana on Saturday night in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

Hicks added seven rebounds for the Red Wolves. Taryn Todd scored 18 points and added five rebounds. Derrian Ford had 18 points and went 7 of 10 from the field. The Red Wolves picked up their seventh straight victory.

Hosana Kitenge led the way for the Ragin' Cajuns with 15 points, two steals and two blocks. Kobe Julien added 15 points for Louisiana. Kentrell Garnett had 13 points.

Arkansas State took the lead with 13:04 left in the first half and did not give it up. The score was 48-33 at halftime, with Ford racking up 14 points. Arkansas State extended its lead to 87-58 during the second half, fueled by a 7-0 scoring run.

The Red Wolves will battle Appalachian State in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinals. Coverage from the Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla., begins at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
