Arkansas troopers arrest 20 people, seize stolen guns and illegal drugs in 9-hour operation

Arkansas State Police says they made 20 arrests and confiscated five firearms and illegal drugs during a nine-hour operation in Lee County.

MARIANNA, Ark. — Arkansas State Police (ASP) arrested 20 people and seized illegal items after a nine-hour "saturation initiative" in Lee County over the weekend.

Authorities said they confiscated five firearms, methamphetamine, ecstasy pills and illegal marijuana during the operation, which started at 5 p.m. on May 24 and ended at 2 a.m. on May 25.

ASP said three of the five firearms were reported as stolen.

"The most significant success of the operation was the response from the community," ASP Capt. Philip Hydron said. "They expressed genuine appreciation for our presence and the proactive stance of law enforcement in addressing criminal activities."

During the initiative, ASP issued 156 citations for various offenses. Eight individuals were arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, and troopers also made two felony warrant arrests.

Additionally, ASP issued citations for speeding (13), not wearing a seat belt (22) and not using child restraints (10).

In total, ASP said they made 278 contacts during the operation.
