Arkansas woman claims drone tracked her during walk on the Big Dam Bridge

A woman walking at the Big Dam Bridge in Little Rock expressed her concerns and frustrations over a drone following her and other women while on a walk.

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — Technology being used against you to invade your privacy can certainly be a scary thought.

Unfortunately, that's what one Arkansas woman said happened to her multiple times while on a walk at the Big Dam Bridge.

Sarah Shera called us on Monday and explained how a drone followed her while she was walking.

"So yeah, vulnerable, threatened, I didn't feel safe," said Shera.

She walks the bridge often but said that the last couple of times she's been there a drone followed her and other women.

"I assumed in a positive manner that it was the police and perhaps they were looking for someone," she explained.

Shera said that each time she saw the drone, it came within feet of her where she could see it focusing in on her.

"There are so many beautiful things to look at here, so I find it not quite humorous, but alarming, that somebody with a drone is focusing on humans, especially women," she added.

Bill James with the James Law Firm explained how there aren't any laws specifically in Arkansas that prevent people from using this technology to track someone, but there are other legal options.

"The problem with drones and things of that nature is it's not specifically illegal to fly a drone around somebody or to follow somebody with a drone," said James.

In the State of Arkansas, harassment includes following a person in or about a public place and placing a person under surveillance. Stalking is harassing a person and making a terroristic threat which causes someone to be fearful of death or injury.

Shera said she won't let this situation stop her from enjoying the beautiful Natural State.

In hopes of helping other people avoid a situation like this, she has been talking to city and county officials to see if there are any rules against flying drones in public parks.

Pulaski County maintains the bridge and its security. Though the sheriff's office said they have not had any reports of these types of incidents, they said that if this happens to you, call them and report it.

In the State of Arkansas, you cannot fly drones around state parks without a special permit. The National Park Service also has a ban on flying drones within any federal parks, trails, or rivers.
