Arrest made in shooting at Ark. officer's home

An arrest has been made in the Clarendon shooting targeting a police officer that happened over the weekend

MONROE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) -- An arrest has been made in the Clarendon shooting targeting a police officer that happened over the weekend.

At around 11 p.m. on Monday, the Monroe County Sheriff’s office arrested 23-year-old Grant Caldwell of Clarendon. He was arrested on four counts of terroristic act and four counts of aggravated assault.

Sheriff Michael Neal with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says this was an ambush situation. He says Caldwell has had multiple run-ins with the officer and he says because of the violent nature of this attack, he believes he was planning to kill him.

Investigators started looking into Caldwell as the person responsible on Saturday from a good tip they were given.

Sheriff Neal has said multiple times that this sort of act against law enforcement will not be tolerated, and he says this person will be punished to the maximum that the law allows.

“Prior days before he had been arrested and charged and this has been an ongoing feud. This subject has had multiple charges, this officer has arrested him multiple times and he had a vendetta against the officer,” said Sheriff Neal.

Sheriff Neal says they’re not ready to say Caldwell worked alone, but so far no other charges have been made.

He says they’re also investigating two prior attacks on this police officer that could be linked to case. Sheriff Neal says this officer has been shot at twice before within the last few years.

Caldwell is being held on a $500,000 bond and his court date is set for August 23.
