LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — As summer vacation officially comes to a close and students throughout Central Arkansas prepare to walk into the classroom for the first time this school year, several back-to-school events are taking place in the area.
Here's a look at some of the events that parents and students should know about to celebrate the start of the 2024 school year!
Saturday, August 10
- 3rd Annual Back-to-School Family Fun Fest: City of Little Rock Department of Community Programs and Arkansas Minority Health Commission are hosting the event at Riverfront Park and Amphitheater from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event will feature free haircuts and manicures for kids, along with immunizations, health, and dental screenings
- Say's Stop the Violence Anti-Bullying Campaign: This event will feature guest speakers, a backpack giveaway, and a police car show-and-tell. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and last until noon.
- Central Arkansas Sphinx Foundation and Alpha Phi Alpha's Back to School event: This event will feature free supplies, haircuts, and refreshments. The event will take place at 1500 S. Ringo in Little Rock.
- Backpack Giveaway: This event will take place at Galloway Park in Jacksonville at 10:45 a.m. and will feature a backpack giveaway.
Sunday, August 11
- Free Haircuts by Skillz Barbershop: This will take place at 6801 W. 12th in Little Rock and will feature free haircuts for students.
Thursday, August 15
- Sherwood Police Department's School Supplies Giveaway: This event will take place at 10200 Johnson Drive from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 a.m. and will offer free supplies on a first-come, first-served basis.
Saturday, August 17
- New Life Church Conway back-to-school event: This event will take place at 633 S. Country Club Road in Conway from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and will offer haircuts, food, backpacks, and a free pair of Nike shoes to every student in attendance.
- CALS Children's Library and Learning Center back-to-school safari: This event will take place at 4800 W 10th St in Little Rock and will offer school supplies, haircuts, dental screenings, meet & greet with live animal ambassadors from the Little Rock Zoo, and much more.
