BATESVILLE, Ark. — Batesville Eagle Mountain Elementary will remain closed on Tuesday following a fire that happened at the campus on Monday morning.

According to district officials, the incident happened early Monday morning, with the Batesville Fire Department quickly extinguishing "a small fire" that happened at the campus.

According to the Batesville School District, the fire happened around 1:30 a.m. as the district's milk delivery man noticed smoke coming from a classroom. The delivery man made calls to report the incident afterward.

There's no information on what exactly caused the fire, but the district said that the fire was in one classroom and that a classroom on the basement level sustained some water damage.

Due to caution, district officials decided to close the school on Monday and Tuesday, but are hopeful that classes will resume on Wednesday.
