BBQ fundraiser helps families impacted by Arkansas mass shooting

A Camden-based BBQ company was in Fordyce helping out those devastated by the mass shooting on June 21.

FORDYCE, Ark. — On Saturday, a BBQ fundraiser was held in Fordyce to raise money for victims’ families after the June 21 mass shooting.

Clifton and Angela Humphries, who own The Flaming Pig BBQ, came up with the idea for the fundraiser.

While they have lived in Fordyce in the past, the business is currently based in Camden—about thirty minutes away.

"We just have a lot of friends and family that still live here,” Angela Humphries said.

That's why the Humphries brought their food truck to Fordyce Saturday morning, providing sandwiches, chips and water to community members in exchange for donations.

Daniel Casey, who owns a physical therapy practice in Fordyce, said that acts like these make the recovery process a little bit easier.

"In tragedy, it's hard to see the good in everything,” Casey said. “But when you look around, and you see everyone willing to help out and come and support each other... that just turns a dark moment into a light moment."

Several groups were out supporting the fundraiser, including a couple of other food providers handing out meals for donations.

The fundraiser isn't new for The Flaming Pig—they've held several similar events over the last six years, including feeding Little Rock tornado victims in April 2023.

"We were shocked and upset, as anyone would be,” Angela Humphries said. “We were just compelled to try to help out, and the best way we know how to do that is to do a fundraiser."

And the people of Fordyce responded, just as they have consistently since the deadly mass shooting at the Mad Butcher grocery store.

"For a community that does so much for you, you want to give back to that community in every way,” Casey said. “There's so much heartbreak going on right now, and I think it's important for the families and those involved to see how much everyone else cares."

The fundraiser may be over, but The Flaming Pig will take donations through July 25. 100% of the proceeds will go to Fordyce Bank and Trust, which will split the money evenly between the accounts set up for the four shooting victims.

Anyone who wants to help can donate by sending money to @angelahumphries1980 on PayPal or $cliftonswife2011 on Cash App.
