BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) – Police in Benton are investigating an attempted kidnapping in their area.

Officers responded to the area of South St. at the intersection of Main Street around 9:40 a.m. and spoke to the 16-year-old victim.

The victim told them a Hispanic mane got out of a truck and approached her as she was walking on the sidewalk. The victim said the man opened the passenger door and tried to get her to get in with him. Police said the victim told him no and he got back into his truck and again tried unsuccessfully to get her to get in with him before driving off.

Police said she said the suspect was speaking something in Spanish while motioning for her to get in, but she didn't know what he said to her.

A witness in the area saw what happened and stopped and started yelling at the suspect who then drove off.

The suspect vehicle was described as being a single cab Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck with the upper portion painted purple or dark blue, and the lower portion painted red. Officers conducted a search of the area and information was sent out to surrounding agencies in an attempt to locate the suspect.

Just before 5 p.m. on Friday, Lt. Kevin Russell with the department said a person of interest was determined. No charges have been filed.
