ARKANSAS, USA — The Biden-Harris administration has now announced funding to help provide schools and homes in Arkansas with safe and clean drinking water.

They previously issued a final rule that requires drinking water systems across the country to identify and replace their lead pipes within 10 years. The Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) also require more meticulous testing of drinking water as well as a lower threshold for communities to take action on lead in drinking water.

Aside from those improvements, the Environmental Protection Agency has announced that there is $29,819,000 in funding now available for the drinking water infrastructure in Arkansas through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

This money will flow through the drinking water state revolving funds and is available to help support projects involving lead pipe replacement and inventory projects.

Also, 49% of the money is required to be given to disadvantaged communities as grant funding or as principal forgiveness that is not expected to be repaid.

The EPA has also announced that $35 million is available in competitive grant funding to reduce lead in drinking water.
