LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — WNBA star Brittney Griner made an unexpected stop at Mills University Studies High School last week.
Griner, who is a 6-time WNBA All-Star and two time Olympic gold medalist with Team USA, spoke to the student athletes from both the volleyball and basketball teams at Mills.
During her visit, Griner broke down her journey to the WNBA and emphasized to the students there how important it is to remain focused on their goals.
The Pulaski County Special School District (PCSSD) said that Griner's visit was part of a series of guest speakers, with the district emphasizing how crucial it is for students to hear from successful athletes.
"This particular visit was part of a series of guest speakers the school organized for athletic teams. The purpose of these visits is for students to hear from fellow student-athletes about their journey from high school to college to professional athletics," PCSSD said.
Alongside her impressive professional career, Griner also kept her name in the record books on a collegiate level as she remains the only player in NCAA history to have over 2,000 career points and 500 career blocks.
Griner made her mark in college as she played at Baylor from 2009 to 2013, leading the Bears to two Final Fours and the 2012 National Championship.
After closing out her career in college, Griner was selected with the number one overall pick by the Phoenix Mercury in 2013, making her impact felt in the WNBA immediately.
Griner is set to have her jersey retired by Baylor on Feb. 18 as they take on Texas Tech.
