Bryant special election set to begin next week

The people of Bryant will begin early voting in a special election next week, and we're taking a look at what voters need to know before heading to the polls.

BRYANT, Arkansas — Next week, the people of Bryant will begin early voting in a special election.

There are two things on the ballot.

The first is an Advertising and Promotion tax. If passed, there will be a 3% tax on hotels and 2% on restaurants.

The second issue on the ballot is a bond that would allocate 50% of that revenue for maintaining parks and the development of new park projects.

This potential funding will go towards Bryant's 20-year master plan and would create things like a new indoor tennis facility and new pickleball courts.

"The A&P tax won't go towards all the master plan, but we can't get started without it, so this is that first step," said Chris Treat, Bryant's Parks Director.

This money could also help several non-profits that partner with the Bryant Parks Department, such as the Boys & Girls Club.

"We are able to provide so many programs, life-changing programs for the youth in our community, whether it be flag football, basketball, sports, anything sports related, or the arts, or stem," said Jordan Stramiello with Boys & Girls Club.

If they can get more funding, the club wants to expand its services by creating a teen center.

Early voting is set to begin next Monday and will be held at the Benton Vote Center and the Boswell Memorial Library.

Election day will be held on Tuesday, November 14.
