LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Love is in the air as Valentine's Day inches closer. However, instead of looking for the best date spot, some people are in search of the perfect way to get over an ex.
There are multiple ways Arkansans can get back at their “crappy" ex with a little help from the Little Rock Zoo and Cabot Animal Shelter.
Valentine's Day and love basically go hand in hand, but sometimes a broken heart, or even a vengeful one, comes out on top.
At the Cabot Animal Shelter, they’re offering a little tongue-in-cheek therapy, all in a poopy bag.
"We get a name from you have a crappy ex, or just somebody in your life that's not up to par," said Brandy Buie with Cabot Animal Shelter.
Once they get the request, the shelter's canines do the rest!
"We write that name on a bag then it is filled with our donated goods from our dogs here at the shelter, hopefully, your crappy ex gets to see it," Buie described.
Buie said those with a vendetta, or just a broken heart, are receiving their "Crappy Ex" very well.
"We have had so many responses from crappy exes to those crappy exes’ mothers, and the longer we've run it, the spicier they're getting,” Buie said.
For only a $5 donation homage is given to a ‘crappy ex’, or two.
"I thought Daniel and Daniel’s mom was pretty funny," Buie said in reference to one submission.
However, that’s not the only option. There’s a more symbolic way of getting rid of an ex and their memory.
“It's rough out there on these streets when it comes to love,” said Susan Altrui Director of the Little Rock Zoo.
This year at the Little Rock Zoo, a cockroach can take over the name of an ex.
“Name them that special someone in your life that may have broken your heart,” Altrui said.
After that, the cockroach becomes a snake’s special snack.
“On Valentine's Day, we'll be handing out those cockroaches, the tasty little morsels, to all of our reptile friends and they will enthusiastically crunch away,” Altrui said.
To take part in the ‘Crappy Ex’ initiative with the Cabot Animal Shelter, they are accepting submissions until Valentine’s Day through Venmo or PayPal.
If interested in donating a cockroach on behalf of an ex, visit the Zoo’s website. Each donation helps either the zoo or animal shelter.
“All of the contributions from this go to animal enrichment, which helps our animals,” Altrui said. “So, even though you might be taking out a little bit of a grudge, you're also doing something good too.”
As the Cabot Animal Shelter deals with over-capacity, the donations help plenty.
“This will help with enrichment items for the dogs, it'll help with their daily care, food, water, and shelter,” Buie said.
