Can babies visit the chiropractor?

In pediatric care, these adjustments aim to positively impact the muscular & nervous systems— without the bone popping used by chiropractors on adults.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — It’s all smiles on Tuesday morning for Megan Vaughn and her daughter Evelyn, but like any infant, there are good days and bad days.

After noticing that Evelyn was having a lot of ear infections, Megan took her to see Dr. JBess Ruby of Embodiment Chiropractic in Little Rock.

"Our little humans are not tiny adults, so we look at them completely different,” she explained.

Many think of a chiropractor visit as those loud adjustments with bones popping, but Dr. Ruby insists that pediatric care is nothing of the sort.

“Very gentle and very playful. [It] just allows us to get the job done without having to treat them like adults because it just doesn’t work the same. Their bodies aren't developed the same,” Dr. Ruby explained.

Megan echoed what Dr. Ruby believes and said she's noticed improvements in her daughter.

“She’s always been a happy baby, but I believe her demeanor did improve with her being sick so often," she added. "This has kind of helped smooth some of that out.”

According to Dr. Ruby, the goal of these adjustments is to make a profound impact on the muscular and nervous systems.

“Muscle tension, if they’re having trouble turning their head one way or the other, not crawling, not walking, or not progressing through those developmental milestones.," she described. "The more information I have the greater way I can put my lenses on them and know what I’m assessing for.”

In Evelyn's case, they're continuing to focus on milestones and compare the differences from week to week— and so far there's been positive progress.

“Evelyn only started crawling about two weeks ago. Working with her and seeing now she’s tucking her knees and doing all these things she wasn’t doing last week,” Dr. Ruby said. “It’s so cool to see kids progress and parents to see their kid is capable of making changes when their body and mind are talking to one another.”
