NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Central Arkansas Christian Mustangs are undefeated in 3A Region 5 action.
They're 15-3 overall, and the Mustangs have a lot of returners this year. However, it's the experience that has helped them succeed.
"We returned a lot of guys from last year's team. That was a really good team. We lost one senior that played a bunch and a couple of seniors that were kind of role players for us, but brought a ton of guys back from last year's team. That just rolled over to make another successful year," said head coach Matt Hall. "We have Grayson Wilson who almost everybody in the state knows he's an Arkansas commit as a quarterback and he was an All-State player for us last year. Deuce Williams and Sam Maddox all those guys were starters last year and all returned.
Sam Maddox is just a few points shy of 1000 career points and averages about 18 points a game. He was also all-state last year.
"I try not to care about statistics too much, but it's just a testament to the hard work I've put in for years and my teammates who gave me opportunities. I know in my grade we've been playing with each other since like third grade, private school league and stuff like that, but just the camaraderie across all grades. It's just really special," Maddox described.
Of course, the sights are set on the big prize.
"It's just a state championship every year. That's the goal from the beginning of the year, and just to improve every day. Watch out for the Mustangs this year!" Maddox added.
Central Arkansas Christian will host Baptist Prep on Thursday, February 1 at 7:30 p.m.
