LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Here's a quick history quiz for you.
Name the person who helped to mentor the Little Rock Nine through the desegregation of Little Rock Central High School. If you guessed that leader as Daisy Bates, you're correct.
Starting Friday, Little Rock city officials began tours through the activist's former home, right across from Central. The home is protected by the federal government as part of the school's historic site.
After her involvement in the Little Rock Nine integration, Bates went on to serve under former President Lyndon B. Johnson by working on anti-poverty programs.
One tour conductor said the walkthroughs are available for one main reason.
"Fortunately in 1957, it became national news, all around the world and it's so strange that many people from other states know our history, but many of our Little Rockians don't,” said tour conductor Mary Lois Hardin.
The tours go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will end on Monday following the 60th anniversary ceremonies.
