CLEBURNE COUNTY, Ark — The Cleburne County Sheriff's Department is searching for a jail trusty who escaped overnight on April 18.
According to reports 41-year-old Jared West of Tumbling Shoals took the trash outside to the dumpster around midnight and didn't return.
"We look at a wide array of information before someone is selected for a trustee role," Cleburne County Sheriff Chris Brown said. "In most instances, we start them out on small projects, always supervised, to see whether or not they could potentially work out as a trustee. Some make the cut, and some don't. We don't typically allow any of the trustees out after dark if they're unsupervised, but there are occasions that do warrant them to be out."
A search ensued and is currently ongoing. Brown said they are working with the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, the 16th Drug Task Force and the Heber Springs Police Department to locate West.
"We are still looking into all the details surrounding Inmate West leaving," Brown said. "We are confident we will find him quickly and bring him back to jail."
If you see him or know his whereabouts, please call 911 or use the non-emergency dispatch number (501) 362-8291.
