LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A new exhibit is now open at the Clinton Library. It shows a glamorous side to the presidency that most people never see.
On Friday night, the Clinton Library held an event unveiling the new exhibit, "Be Our Guest." It focuses on foreign leaders' visits to the White House and the preparation it took to make the events happen.
President Bill Clinton was supposed to be in attendance, but could not make it. Instead, he gave his remarks in a recorded video while some of his former administration spoke about events during his presidency.
"The state dinner turned out to be one of the most memorable in no small part because of Whitney Houston's performance at [Nelson] Mandela's request," Clinton said in his recorded video.
Stephanie Sims, the museum curator, and her team spent four months assembling the exhibit. Sims highlighted Mandela's visit in 1994 as one of the most notable.
"It was not long after his release from prison, and it was a huge celebration," Sims said. "A star-studded attendance. It was wonderful."
Other events included performances from Earth, Wind, and Fire, Elton John and Liza Minnelli. Original gowns and tuxes worn by the former president and first lady are also showcased.
The exhibit is temporary and will close on Memorial Day weekend in 2024.
