Here's when construction at this busy Little Rock intersection could be done

Construction at the west Little Rock intersection of Bowman and Kanis has led to confusion for some drivers. Now, officials are sharing an expected completion date.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Recently, some drivers have noticed construction and confusion at the Bowman and Kanis Road intersection in west Little Rock.

Elijah Brown, who works in the area, is one of them.

"When I leave for work or return from break or lunch,” Brown said. “There's a lot of traffic, and getting back here on time is hard for me."

According to Little Rock Public Works Director Jon Honeywell, the construction is part of a project that began 10 years ago near Shackleford Road.

The project has now moved west to Bowman Road, and Honeywell said he's heard some drivers are confused by the temporary changes to the intersection.

He said that his office is following this every single day.

"Both our construction inspection staff that's out there and our traffic engineering staff have gone out to the location multiple times,” Honeywell said. “They'll go out and monitor and watch that for some time each day."

However, according to Brown, some cars still struggle with the temporary lanes and markings, leading to accidents.

"I don't see [the accidents]... but I do hear them,” Brown said. "I'll be just walking. All you hear is tires scratching, and then, boom."

Honeywell said the intersection will be expanded and improved once construction is finished in the near future.

"We're shooting for before the end of the year to have that project done... that's where we're aiming right now," Honeywell said.

In the meantime, Honeywell recognizes that drivers may still struggle with traffic and the confusion of an often-changing road.

"If they have any questions or concerns about how traffic is functioning out there during construction,” Honeywell said. “Please contact our office. We go out and take a look at it immediately and try to adjust what we need to based on what folks are seeing out there and what we can observe out there."
