Conway mom brings workout program, support for new moms to Arkansas

A Conway woman is providing new moms a unique way to work out and support one another.

CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - A new baby means a whole new routine.

Finding time to sleep, eat, let alone exercise can be overwhelming. It can also be lonely.

It’s a juggling act first time mom Maggie Glover knows well.

“Everything changed when I became a mom. I had it all planned out, how I thought it was going to be, and nothing was the same,” said Maggie Glover of Conway.

After her daughter Sophie was born, Glover decided to be a stay-at-home mom, but struggled to find a way to stay fit and bond with her baby.

“I could go to a gym, I tried that, and put her in a group daycare, but I tell you, I was sitting there on the treadmill the whole time staring at the nursery like, ‘what’s happening in there with my baby?’” said Glover.

Glover also found something else was lacking.

“I didn't have that village, as they say, of a group of moms that I could ask all the questions that I needed, all in one place.”

That is when Glover came across Oh Baby! Fitness, a workout program for new moms and their babies. She became a licensee and started the first class in Conway in October. It wasn't long before it became a hit.

“Baby. Me. Energy. Mood. It has been awesome all around for me,” said Kayla Sullivan.

“If we aren't doing the strollers we are either doing jumping jacks that incorporate squats, we use laundry baskets we push the babies in. It's a pretty good workout. She makes us sweat quite a bit,” said Melody Gaeng.

“We try to make things interesting and creative and break some things up,” said Glover. “Every day we do introductions and we talk about what’s going on in your life. It can be a subject about sleeping or teething or a new milestone. It’s just to get the conversation started.”

It’s a fitness class that goes beyond just a good workout, offering a support system for moms just like Glover.

“This is what I wish I had had. I needed something that was going to get me out of the house, get me active and, most importantly, to really be connected and bonded with moms who knew exactly what was going on with me so that is what I hope and what I think is happening here,” said Glover.

Oh Baby! Fitness offers workout programs including stroller fitness, yoga and Pilates. Classes are held Conway, Maumelle and Little Rock.
