Conway volleyball hosts "Pink Night" to rally around resilient student

Junior Terrance Blake has a rare brain tumor that took away his ability to walk and speak, but thanks to the support of his peers, he still has a love for school.

CONWAY, Ark. — It's homecoming week in Conway, however the Wampus Cat family has their minds on one of their own as junior Terrance Blake is in the battle of his life.

Terrance has a rare brain tumor robbing him of his ability to walk and speak, but his mom Cameria Blake said it's not taking away his love for his school.

"You forget how nice people really are, and through this situation that we've been going through, I mean, we've had a lot of support," she said.

A tough situation was made a little easier by his fellow students, providing his family with a surprise gift.

Conway assistant volleyball coach Chelsey Fason helped organize "Pink Night" on October 24, a fundraiser held each year during a volleyball game with proceeds going to help someone in the community.

"That one was kind of like it's right there in front of us. And so why would we not go and help someone who's in our school," Fason said.

Senior Madden Cabantac said this is her favorite game of the year, and it's become a big competition amongst the team to raise as much money as possible.

"We do a lot of different things to raise money, change drives and t-shirt selling. So that's always really fun," she added.

While Terrance continues his battle, each small act of kindness makes a big difference to his family.

"I see some improvement. He's still doing treatments and stuff.  But I do see he has great faith and great, just strength. He's a real strong kid," his mom added.
