CONWAY, Ark. — In 2020, Eat It Up introduced you to Tacos 4 Life, the restaurant with a mission to eliminate hunger all around the world. This week we’re back at their original location in Conway— and things look a little different!
This specific location made the transition from Tacos 4 Life to Dōblé Mexican Cafe a few weeks ago. But while the concept has changed, their mission hasn’t.
You can still find many of the staples such as the popular queso and tacos, but you’ll also find an entire selection of new items to try.
According to the owners, many of the new recipes came from family and close friends. HUGE burritos, taco bowls, loaded nacho fries, and an infamously hot “reaper salsa” are among just a few of the new dishes.
But what about the name? It’s actually a nod to their mission of donating a meal for every meal sold.
“Dōblé is Spanish for double, so there’s this double meaning, and double impact,” explained co-owner Austin Samuelson. “We really want to see a day where no child dies from hunger-related causes.”
Since first sharing the story behind Tacos 4 Life in 2020, the couple’s ever-growing restaurant chain has contributed almost 31 million meals to impoverished communities across the globe.
The Samuelsons believe that food changes everything. For them, the results are evidence enough. They recently took a trip to a community where they had sent meals for 10 years, but now there’s no longer a need.
“Food is the foundation for all the sustainable things that need to happen to transform lives and communities,” he added.
While Samuelson was clear to say that Tacos 4 Life isn’t going anywhere, his hope is this new Dōblé concept will be the model for restaurants in smaller communities in the future. So stay tuned!
Dōblé Mexican Café is located at 2335 Dave Ward Drive in Conway. They are open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m.
