13th annual Downtown Little Rock Food Truck Festival sees big turnout

People from all across Central Arkansas made their way to the Downtown Little Rock Food Truck Festival on Sunday.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — People from all across Central Arkansas made their way to Little Rock this past weekend for the annual Downtown Food Truck Festival.

This year, the festival moved from Main Street to Capitol Avenue and it made a big difference for business owners and customers alike.

"It was just a very good day in downtown Little Rock," said Gabe Holmstrom, the Executive Director for  Downtown Little Rock Partnership.

Even though it was a hot day, that didn't stop the crowds from going out to enjoy the festival.

"The good news is people still wanted to be outside. They came out with their fans. They got plenty to drink and stayed hydrated. We didn't have any issues," Holmstrom described.

He estimated that there were about 35,000 to 40,000 people who showed up throughout the day.

"We'll be able to pull some data here in a couple weeks and get a better sense of that, but that's kind of where we where we think things are today," he added.

Holmstrom said it's always hard to know exactly how many to expect since the weather is such a big factor, but he heard a lot of good feedback from those who attended.

"People really appreciated the wider streets, and it made things not nearly as congested," he added.

"People was able to move around without being crowded, bumping into each other. The lines was able to be kind of extended out without the fuss anyway. So that was a big difference, and a lot of help, right there," said Javion Gilliam, owner of Fry Fry Crazy.

Gilliam also said he even sold out of food because of the big crowds.

"We probably sold out an hour before it shut down. So much better than the previous years, because we're more experienced this time, and we was able to get out more volume, but selling out was a good deal," he added.

One of the reasons for the move to Capitol Avenue is the effort to revitalize the area since the Downtown Little Rock Partnership saw significant growth on Main Street.

"Hopefully next year, when we do it again, we'll have nice cloud cover, highs of about 83. That's what we're shooting for for next year," Holmstrom said.

Holmstrom also said he expects to be back on Capitol again next year.
