Emmy winner LeVar Burton visits students at Little Rock elementary

LeVar Burton, star of Reading Rainbow, the Miniseries Roots, and Star Trek, visited Washington Elementary to advocate for the teaching of reading through science.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Star of the 70’s megahit “Roots,” and the Emmy-winning PBS series “Reading Rainbow as well as “Star Trek,” LeVar Burton, came to Arkansas to promote the new documentary “The Right To Read.”

The movie deals with the Science of Reading, which uses the tools of the past that come to match the way the brain processes reading lessons perfectly.

Burton promoted the movie Wednesday night, and on Thursday, he went to Washington Elementary in Little Rock to watch the process unfold in a first-grade classroom.

Afterward, Burton met with school teacher Timika Marbley and Craig O’Neill. Their conversation serves as a pep talk for educators everywhere to pick up the momentum of changing cultures in 30 states and promises to do more.
