Arkansas police chief charged with felony kidnapping

Arkansas State Police said that they've arrested Eudora's police chief, who is being charged with kidnapping after allegedly injuring and leaving a man stranded.

EUDORA, Ark. — Arkansas State Police have arrested 45-year-old Michael Henderson Pitts, the Eudora police chief.

According to ASP, Pitts was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 30, and was charged with felony kidnapping in connection to an incident that happened back in October of 2023.

Arkansas State Police said that the incident happened when Pitts was dispatched to a Eudora gas station and was asked to "remove a man who was causing a disruption at the business."

From there, ASP said that Pitts illegally detained the man, later identified as 49-year-old John Hill Jr., and took him to a remote location in Chicot County.

Authorities said that Pitts then assaulted Hill in that area and left him both injured and stranded.

Pitts was later fired from the department this week.

He recently turned himself in to the Chicot County Sheriff's Office and had his bond set at $5,000.
