TAMAULIPAS, Mexico — Everyone wants to mooch off the Texas-sized Buc-ee's brand, it seems.
Yet another copycat has emerged in Mexico. A video posted to TikTok shows a convenience store called "LUC-KY's" in Estacion Manuel, Tamaulipas, Mexico, which appears to have the same font and a raccoon creature as its animal mascot instead of Buc-ee the Beaver (which we found, by the way).
So, here's "Luc-ky the Raccoon."
Photos on Google Maps show the storefront and the inside of the store (click here).
You may remember in late summer of 2023, "Buk-II's" went viral online after someone posted a video of it. Two months later, the gopher got a makeover and was seen donning a mullet. After the new hairdo, Buc-ee's told WFAA it had no further comment on the store.
Buc-ee's officials gave WFAA the following response Wednesday morning when asked about the Luc-ky's store:
"Buc-ee’s has invested heavily in innovation across the company to provide the best quality products and experience for our customers. Buc-ee’s will not be idle spectators while others infringe the intellectual property rights that Buc-ee’s has worked so hard to develop."
Buc-ee's litigation history
Buc-ee's is no stranger to taking legal action to protect its brand.
In 2018, Buc-ee's won a trademark lawsuit against San Antonio's Choke Canyon rest stop chain, which had a cartoon alligator logo on a yellow circle.
In 2013, Buc-ee's filed a lawsuit against Chick's, a stand-alone convenience store in Bryan, Texas, which was dismissed and settled out of court.
In Uvalde County, general store B&B Grocery was sued after using a tubing beaver logo.
An art installation with Buc-ee's branding was created in the West Texas town of Sanderson, but it was later taken down, according to MySA.
Buc-ee's is known for its wide array of snacks, including the highly-renowned Beaver Nuggets. There are 45 Buc-ee's locations in the United States, 34 of which are in Texas. As more locations expand from state to state, the locations continue to get bigger, like the one coming to Central Florida.
