Traffic stop leads to fatal standoff in White County

The White County Sheriff's Office says the man barricaded himself inside a home and threatened to kill deputies before he was fatally shot.

WHITE COUNTY, Ark. — One man is dead after a high-speed chase turned into a standoff at a White County home on Monday.

According to the White County Sheriff's Office, a deputy attempted a traffic stop around 9:44 p.m. when Curtis Lindsey, the driver, led authorities on a vehicle pursuit.

Lindsey drove to the area of Shiloh and Tweedy Road, where he fled on foot and "threatened to kill the pursuing deputy" with a revolver.

Eventually, sheriffs said the deputy took cover and lost sight of Lindsey.

Following a search involving two separate K-9 units, Lindsey was tracked to a residence on Tweedy Road.

The White County Sheriff's Office said they spoke to Lindsey outside of the home for approximately 30 minutes without a response, which prompted the use of chemical irritants to be released inside the home, again without response.

White County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team members then "attempted to breach the front door, but it had been barricaded with a refrigerator.

That's when sheriffs said Lindsey "approached the front door, verbally threatening to kill the deputies." The man allegedly aimed a pistol at a deputy when authorities fatally shot him.

White County officials said Lindsey had outstanding warrants from Kensett, Beebe, White County, Van Buren County and Nevada County.

The deputies involved in the shooting were "placed on leave per policy pending the results of the state police investigation of the incident."
