LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Cinema Society (ACS) and the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts (AMFA) announced on Friday that Filmland will be making its return to Little Rock from August 15-18.
Filmland will be taking place at AMFA and just like in previous years, the showcase will feature independent films and include exclusive conversations with filmmakers.
With anticipation building, ACS said that they're excited to be bringing Filmland back to Little Rock.
“ACS is excited to get back to our roots by moving Filmland to its original spot in August,” said executive director and co-founder Kathryn F. Tucker.
This excitement is shared with many at AMFA as well, including the museum's executive director Dr. Victoria Ramirez.
“AMFA is excited for Filmland’s return to the museum. We look forward to seeing the films, hearing from the filmmakers, and celebrating this artistic form,” Dr. Ramirez said.
Over the years, Filmland has shown films such as The Bikeriders, Nomadland, Free Solo, and The Eyes of Tammy Faye. The film festival has also hosted numerous actors like Margot Robbie and Jessica Chastain, along with different directors such as Richard Linklater and David Lowery.
Submissions for this year's Filmland are currently underway until June 1. According to ACS, "submissions are for films shot in Arkansas, filmmakers from Arkansas who made a film elsewhere, and Arkansas-based producers, directors, and writers."
ACS said that a submission would also be considered if an Arkansas-native is featured in a key-role in the film, such as working as a lead actor, cinematographer, animator, and costume designer, among other roles.
