Crews extinguish fire at Arkansas State Capitol

The Little Rock Fire Department says there's heat and smoke damage, but nobody was injured.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Little Rock Fire Department responded to a fire in the cafeteria of the Arkansas State Capitol at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the Little Rock Fire Department, light smoke filled the Capitol Building, and firefighters were able to "quickly" put out the flames coming from the kitchen.

There is heat and smoke damage, but the Littel Rock Fire Department said nobody was injured.

Fire Marshals are now investigating the cause of the fire, as the cafeteria area was closed when the incident happened.

Arkansas Secretary of State Joe Thurston said the State Capitol will be closed to visitors all day on Saturday. It's unclear whether the closure is due to the fire.
