Fire ban in place at Buffalo National River

Due to ongoing dry conditions across the Natural State, the Buffalo National River has been placed under a temporary fire ban.

HARRISON, Ark. — The Buffalo National River has been placed under a temporary fire ban due to ongoing dry conditions across the Natural State.

The majority of the counties in the state have been placed under burn bans to avoid wildfire danger for the same reason.

For the time being, lighting or maintaining a fire within the boundaries of Buffalo National River is not allowed. The ban also restricts the following things:

  • No wood-fueled fires or charcoal grills in any developed campground
  • No campfires in backcountry or wilderness areas, including areas without developed campsites
  • No devices similar to tiki torches, candles, or open-flame kerosene lanterns
  • Smoking is only allowed inside vehicles, on roadways, or in areas without combustible material
  • Fireworks are always prohibited

Despite these restrictions, the use of camp stoves, lanterns, and free-standing gas grills is still allowed in developed campgrounds and picnic areas.

Solid fuel, propane, or liquid-fueled camp stoves and lanterns may be still used in all locations throughout the park.

This fire ban will remain in place until conditions improve.
