Over 100 flights impacted at Clinton National Airport after global outage

Passengers at Little Rock's airport are still feeling the impacts of last week's outage, leading to delays & cancelations now working to navigate their summer travel

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The major tech outage that happened on Friday has continued to disrupt thousands of flights and some airlines have still been working to catch up.

Passengers at the Clinton National Airport (LIT) in Little Rock continue working to navigate their summer travel between over a hundred delays and cancelations.

One passenger explained that they slept in an airport before arriving in Little Rock, and another others joined in to express their frustrations regarding the situation. However, while there have been frustrations, LIT has also seen some southern hospitality.

"You know, for the most part, passengers have been really patient," he said. "We've had 100 delays and 27 cancelations during the past four days, and we still have flights impacted coming up tonight," said Shane Carter, Clinton National Airport Public Affairs Director.

With crowded gates and bags lining the hallway, Carter said they've certainly been feeling the impact of the delays during one of the airport's busiest seasons.

"When you see something on such an enormous scale, with so many airports and flights impacted, it takes a long time to recover," Carter said. "It is difficult for the airlines to get those passengers rebooked a lot of times because most of the flights are already full from here, we have been very busy during the summer."

If your flight is canceled because of something controllable, like this outage, most major airlines promise to:

  • Reebook you at no cost
  • Refund your flight
  • Pay for your hotel and taxi if you're stuck overnight
  • Pay for a meal if it means you're held up for more than three hours.

If you landed at the Little Rock airport and you have a lost bag, they recommend that you head there in person to check in on your bag, and also call the airline.

LIT said that Delta is still leading the board in the number of affected flights.

The airline explained how they have been working around the clock and are now offering another option for passengers with flights from this past Friday through July 23 to extend their travel to any time before Sunday, July 28.
