Water pipe break floods downtown Little Rock streets

According to reports, a water pipe leak is causing spillage onto the interstate near the Broadway exit on I-630 in downtown Little Rock.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Update: The main break is now fixed, according to Central Arkansas Water.

According to reports, a pipe leak is causing water to spill onto the interstate near the Broadway exit on I-630 in downtown Little Rock.

Traffic near Frontage Road and Spring Street going south toward W. 12th St. is currently being redirected. Those traveling nearby have been asked to avoid the area.

Central Arkansas Water (CAW) stated that customers nearby may experience discolored water after "a spontaneous break occurred on a 16-inch-diameter water main that serves the area."

Crews are working to flush mains to remove the discoloration. However, CAW also advised affected customers to refrain from washing clothes during this time until repairs are completed.

The utility estimated that the outage will impact the area for approximately six hours. A representative with CAW issued the following statement:

“We have a break on a 16” main at 11th and Spring. Crews are on-site and are preparing to shut the line down to make the repair. It does like 38 services will be affected, and the estimated time of repair is 6 hours. There is a lot of water, so the traffic near Frontage Rd. and Spring St. going south to W. 12th St. is being redirected.”
