Free screening of “The Color Purple” to be shown in Little Rock

In honor of the release of The Color Purple, the Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium will be hosting a special free screening on January 13 in Little Rock.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — In honor of The Color Purple's release in theaters, the Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium will be hosting special free screening events across the U.S. as part of "The Purple Experience”.

On January 13, "The Purple Experience” will come to the Little Rock Chenal 9 Theater at 2:00 p.m.

The 2023 take on the 1985 classic film explores themes of sisterhood, strength, and unbreakable bonds. After Celie is torn apart from her sister and her children, she faces numerous hardships before ultimately finding strength in sisterhood.

As proud advocates for Black women, the Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium decided to buy select theaters to support the release of The Color Purple and amplify the power of storytelling to inspire and empower them.

In partnership with local community organization TOPPS, Inc. (Targeting Our Peoples Priorities with Service), the event will feature a purple carpet, giveaways, and more to spark joy among the community.
