"Gas leaks everywhere": Emergency crews work diligently to respond to areas of need in Benton County

Emergency crews from surrounding areas have stepped in to help including Springdale, Bella Vista and Fayetteville Fire Departments.

BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — The Rogers Police Department has worked diligently overnight to respond to multiple areas of need in the city after severe weather tore through the area. Emergency crews from surrounding areas have stepped in to help including Springdale, Bella Vista and Fayetteville Fire Departments.

Gas Leaks

The severe weather caused extensive damage in the county, including numerous gas leaks. RPD said, "Black Hills Energy Technicians are mobilizing and responding to leaks" in the county.

Officials warn customers that if they smell natural gas, they should leave their homes immediately and call 911. They also say to leave the door of their house open and, while away from their homes, immediately call Black Hills Energy's emergency service line at 888-890-5554.

Customers are advised not to use their phones to call when they are inside their homes. If customers smell the leak outside, RPD advises to avoid the following:

  • Turning electrical devices on or off.
  • Don't use anything with flame or anything that could cause a spark.
  • Do not start any vehicle.
  • Those without power should not use anything with a flame.

RPD said, "The fire department is responding as fast as they can."

Streets

Downed trees and power lines are blocking multiple streets so officers have set up traffic barrels. RPD asks drivers not to go around them.

All major streets are closed. Officials said they cannot immediately provide a full list of streets but say, "It's a lot."
