LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On Thursday, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders alongside the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration and the Arkansas Department of Human Services announced that more than $5.2 million in funding will be given to help support the long-term sustainability of hospitals in rural parts of Arkansas.
This Rural Hospital Sustainability Program was designed in hopes of helping strengthen communities in rural parts of the state as well as to serve patients, preserve access to healthcare, and promote economic development.
“These hospitals are leading the way in making smart, lasting changes to benefit rural Arkansans. I’m proud to support their long-term sustainability to help them effectively and efficiently serve all Arkansans,” said Governor Sanders.
In the next few weeks, several hospitals will receive a 6-month funding allocation based on their attainment of the operational metrics.
Those hospitals are:
- South Mississippi County Regional Medical Center - $1.72 million
- Chicot Memorial - $1.37 million
- Mena Regional Health System - $1.37 million
- DeWitt Hospital and Nursing Home - $774,000
The allocation of funds to participating hospitals was determined by a formula which considers the unique fiscal realities and the needs of each hospital.
