Arkansas Food Hall of Fame honors first Fayetteville restaurant

"This is truly an honor," Herman's Ribhouse owner Dominique Wright said. "Now, we'll be in the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame forever."

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Herman's Ribhouse became the first Fayetteville restaurant to be inducted into the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame. 

Owner Dominique "Nick" Wright said he's grateful for all of the people and loyal customers who nominated and voted for the restaurant. 

"This is truly an honor," Wright said. "Now, we'll be in the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame forever." 

When Fayetteville native Herman Tuck opened the restaurant on New Year's Day in 1964, Herman's Ribhouse only had nine items on its menu. 

Under each new owner, there has been much-needed upgrades to accommodate the growing population of Fayetteville. However, it never changed its original charm. 

Wright — who was a long-time employee that started as a dishwasher — took the reigns in 2013. 

Kat Robinson, a member of the selection committee, said the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame honor is an opportunity to show appreciation for local Arkansas establishments that have been around for generations. 

"You'll find all sorts of people in here," Robinson said. "You'll find Razorback football and basketball coaches. You'll find the magnates of industry, and you'll find regular, old-fashioned people just like you and me. It is one of the establishments that has not changed year after year. 

While Wright is grateful for the honor, he said he cares more about the quality of the restaurant's food and making his customers happy.

Herman's is one of three restaurants that have been inducted to the Hall of Fame this year. Two restaurants in Pulaski County — The Faded Rose and Doe's Eat Place — were also honored.
