High-speed chase in Hazen ends in collision

A high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle and Hazen police ended with a PIT maneuver and a collision. The incident was also caught on a live police show.

HAZEN, Ark. — A high-speed chase in Arkansas was caught live for the world to see.

The Hazen Police Department is part of a show called "On Patrol: Live" which follows and features different police departments in real time.

"It was a normal traffic stop. He was pulling the driver over for not even having a license plate on the car," said Hazen Chief of Police Bradley Taylor.

Hazen officer Colton Felts was getting out of his vehicle and walking up to the silver Chevrolet Camaro. The car then sped off leading officers on a high-speed pursuit.

The police attempted to stop the driver using a PIT maneuvers and blocking his path, but nothing was working until the Camaro drove over an overpass and met two police cars waiting for him.

The cars met in a head-on collision spinning the Camaro out of control until it came to a stop.

"The way his driving and his behavior [was] we didn't want him to get in a town in a populated area," said Taylor.

The officers involved are okay, and the suspect is in the hospital being treated.

The investigation is ongoing, but police explained that the car was stolen. The driver hasn't been charged just yet but could face felony fleeing, aggravated assault, and theft by receiving.

"We wish all the pursuits would stop... I wish for stiffer penalties and maybe people would think twice about running because it puts so many people in danger," said Taylor.

The Hazen Police Department has been a part of On Patrol: Live for more than a year now, and it airs on the online streaming service, Reelz.
