POYEN, Ark. — We're now in mid-November, and that means that we're also getting into the season of giving.
We've shown you time and time again how Arkansans pull together to lend a hand to those in need.
Now, a small town restaurant is taking the "season of giving" to new heights by stepping up to feed its community.
From the moment a customer walks into Highway 270 Grill in Poyen, employees are ready to serve them, even if the customer doesn't have the money to pay for their meal.
"Our owner, Daniel [has] been working on this for a while," said Brianna Vance, a restaurant employee.
They've implemented a blessing board to help the less fortunate and Vance said it has already helped a handful of people during the first week it has been up.
"I've noticed probably five or six so far. We're hoping that as it gets out there more. That more people will take advantage of it," Vance added. "They can just come in, they can either grab a ticket off the board or they can have a seat at the table and ask their waitress to grab a ticket. They send it to the kitchen and then their meal is for free that day."
There are nearly 20 meals that are already pre-paid for and ready for them to be cooked.
"We've also had a lot of people that come drive through that are just kind of less fortunate, and so we're just trying to knock that out," she added.
The diner isn't the only one providing these meals.
"The first five Daniel put on the board. The rest that's on there, customers have come in and paid for," she explained.
This isn't the only way the diner is giving back.
Vance said Highway 70 Grill also hosted a benefit golf tournament in October and donated nearly $14,000 to the Poyen School District to pay off school lunch debt.
They plan to do it again next year and donate to a different school district.
They also have a couple of businesses sponsoring Thanksgiving meals for families as well.
"We're just trying to make sure everybody in the community is fed and has a great meal," she added.
When customers are done eating, they can pay it forward and give a free meal to someone who needs it.
