Little Rock community celebrates holiday season early with 'Holidays in the Heights'

Over the weekend, people in the Little Rock community gathered to celebrate the holidays early at the annual 'Holidays in the Heights' event.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — For some people, the holiday season is considered the most wonderful time of the year. It's a time when friends and family gather together to cherish the festive moments.

This year, people in the heights community here in Little Rock have found themselves getting a head start on the holidays.

"Here in the heights, we celebrate early, so we're having fun decorating cookies for the kids and then we have an elf on the shelf," explained real estate agent Jonie Burks. "All of us like to participate all throughout Kavanaugh to give everybody a little bit of a holiday spirit."

Holidays in the Heights has been an annual staple to the community— incorporating local businesses in the area like the Charlotte John Company, Toggery, and many more.

The event on Sunday provided people in the community with plenty of holiday cheer.

"Right now we're actually doing letters for Santa Claus," said Taliyah Dilworth with First Horizon Bank. "We're mailing them with Santa Claus so they can get a nice little something, something from Santa."

From decorating cookies, to grabbing your favorite balloon animal, making friendship bracelets, riding the holiday trolly, and more—  the festivities were endless.

What truly stole the hearts of many were the long lines of parents and children waiting to take pictures with Elsa and Anna from Disney's "Frozen" and with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

"What I love most about the holidays is family coming together, seeing the community come together and just being joyful and celebrating each other," shared Porscha Durham, who lives in the area.

As the festivities continued throughout the day, it was the smiles of all that radiated and showed everyone what the holidays are all about.

Whether you found yourself buying things to spruce up the tree, shopping for holiday gifts, or spending time with loved ones - the contagious holly, jolly feeling in the air made it enjoyable for all.

"This event also brings in a lot of members of the community, where they can welcome the holidays together, where we get to see our friends in the community," said Caroline Holcomb, owner of Toggary.
