Hot Springs mother plans vigil for missing son

It's been six months since Jessica Ellis saw her son. Now, she's holding a vigil to honor and remember him.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — It's been months since Jessica Ellis last saw her son, Amir Ellis. According to Hot Springs police, Amir Ellis was kidnapped in May, and since then, three people have been arrested.

In August, Jessica Ellis told us that inside a courtroom, she learned her son wouldn't be coming back to her alive. While more court dates are scheduled, Jessica Ellis waits for justice.

“Six months of living without my oldest child, and it happens to be falling around the Thanksgiving holiday," Jessica Ellis said.

Jessica Ellis is left remembering her son as the holiday quickly approaches.

“He loved being around family," Jessica Ellis said. "I just remember him running around smiling. If nobody's smiling, he's running around smiling with a coat or hoodie on because he's always cold. He eats everything. He loves ham, and he loves dressing, and he likes food.”

Her goal has been to bring him home, and although she hasn't just yet, she plans to hold a vigil for him on Sunday.

“I know that it's going to give me some type of closure or peace," Jessica Ellis said. "Even if it's not complete peace."

Ellis said she knows the coming days won't be easy.

“There’s going to be tears. It's going to be sad," Jessica Ellis said. "It's going to be hard. This whole vigil has been hard to plan."

Jessica Ellis said she would miss his smile at the dinner table, but could still see it in her kids and grandson.

“This baby is his daddy, through and through already," Jessica Ellis said. "He's very feisty and demanding."

Jessica Ellis is finding as much as she can to be thankful for this year.

“At least I get to have Amir Junior," Jessica Ellis said. "Amir Junior is about to have his first Thanksgiving. So again, it's about how I’m looking at it. I can look at the glass half full and half empty."

The vigil will be held on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Central at the First Lutheran Church in Hot Springs.
